To visit the STATUE OF LIBERTY, you have two options: one through Staten Island Ferry which is free and crosses near the island letting you take pictures; you just have to try to locate in a good position in the outer aisles of the ferry and have your camera by hand. Leaves every half hour from a port situated very close to the official pier of the island. The second option is to buy the ticket at the pier, but the lines are huge, it is best to buy them in advance and online, http://www.statuecruises.com/  On the official supplier three options are displayed:

1. Buy only the ferry ride to the island, you can walk around, take your photography, visit the souvenir shop and fast food, also allows you to stop at Ellis Island, where there is a museum that recreates an audio-guide about epic lived by emigrants who were taken there and went to a court emigration were they decided if they were accepted to enter the United States or  rejected the whole family and have a brutal return.

2. Buy the trip to Liberty island, including the trip to Ellis island, entrance to the pedestal, is restricted to daily tickets, that’s the main reason to buy tickets in advance. You must climb 215 steps, there's not an elevator.

3. Buy the trip to the island and the entrance to the pedestal and climb to the crown, go prepared to climb 354 steps up through a narrow stairs, you can only come up with your ticket, camera and medication, other objects including wallet and keys must be deposited in a deposit box rental, also including Ellis island, to achieve this, you will need to book in advance, since the quotas are even more restricted.

You must claim your tickets in the ticket office at the park entrance, tickets for access to the interior of the statue as well, this procedure should do by the person who bought the tickets, presenting a valid ID and with the credit card you made a transaction. Tours are self-guided, the tour lasts 5 hours, of course depending on the tour you chose. Security to enter the dock is the same as used in airports, very strict, therefore, refrain from carrying the same items banned by planes. If you carry liquids in glass containers you have to drink before or putting in the trash, no solid food is allowed.

The apartment National Monument and Ellis Island often organizes special exhibitions, programs and tours that you can enjoy on the day of the visit, check with the rangers of Liberty Island and Ellis Island through the available programs or visit: www.nps.gov/stli

The time to visit an island is about two hours and 5 hours for both, after 2 pm you can only go to one of the two islands, because they do not give them time to be in both, schedule your time visit in the morning.

For all visitors that want to see the Statue of Liberty but that also want to cut back on extra expenses; your best option is coming to Pier 1, you can get there by taking the 1, which is the red line to South Ferry or the R yellow line to White Street South Ferry station. Remember, the Staten Island Ferry works 24-hours a day, departing every half-hour according to schedule. The Ferry will take you back and forth for free. Along with this ride, you will enjoy beautiful cityscapes of Lower Manhattan and a close-up of the Statue of Liberty.

Schedule:             Depends on the season, a boat starts the route between 8:30 - 9:30am

                            The last ferry returns at 5:00 p.m.

                            Open every day of the year, except December 25th

When you buy the ticket to visit the Statue of Liberty, it's included in the cost to visit Ellis Island, of course, if you want to visit, it's optional, Ellis is a small island that has a lot of history, about 12 million immigrants cross this island from all over the world to locate in the United States, most of them stayed in New York. At the Museum of the island you can find letters, photographs, personal belongings and all kinds of memories of the time, also they are inscribed on the Wall of Honor, about 600,000 immigrants are there. Today, more than 100 million Americans can find their ancestors who passed through the island.

 

Our advice:

Use the audio guide, it's free and try to make the tour based on the story that the narrator is telling you and imagine how the events occurred, it’s very touching. If any of your ancestors crossed around the island, you can pay and record his name on the Wall of Honor, you only have to contribute a sum of money to Ellis Island Foundation.

It is currently the only museum of its kind located in New York, this small museum is in the southern part of Manhattan, it focuses on building designs, construction sites, work and residence, shows the wonder of skyscrapers, comparing New York with Shanghai, how they are similar and different, also the mega-skyscrapers like the Burj Dubai and the Towers of Liberty.

Our advice:

This museum is small, entry is economic, the main gallery consists of a room, which is full of posters, models, videos and wall charts with updated information.

The best thing is the timeline showing how and where skyscrapers under construction in the world were finished, it is also interesting to see pictures of New York from 1850 to today.

Battery Park is a park of 10 hectares, is situated at the southern tip of New York City in Lower Manhattan, in front of the harbor. The name comes from the fact of having been the place where the Dutch and British were establishing their artillery batteries in order to protect the port. Along the coast, are the springs of where the ferries depart with destination to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. There is also a stop at the New York Water Taxi, between the Statue of Liberty and the Ferry. Northwest is the suburb of Battery Park City, a planned community built between 1970 and 1980. Along with the Hudson River Park, a system of bikeways and walkways extend to the shore of the Hudson River. Then the park is also the Museum of Jewish heritage, The Castle Clinton which works like a small museum and you can buy tickets to go to the Statue of Liberty, is the station of the Staten Island Ferry that takes you up to the Island free and brings it back, and a few steps.

Inside the Battery Park, the Castle Clinton highlights, a fort built before the 1812's war, by the Major DeWitt Clinton, it is now a national monument. In addition to having a small exhibit of history, several concerts are performed during the summer. the Castle is the place where the tickets for the Ferry to visit the Liberty and Ellis islands are sold. The story says that in this area, dozens of forts were built, all of them dedicated to defending the Port of New York at war time in the year of 1812, of which it is said that none of them had the opportunity to fire at the enemy. The greatest relevance of this place for immigrants was in the year of 1855, on which the place was leased to the State of New York and began to operate as an office for immigrant's attention, by which it was estimated than eight million people enter the United States. In the year 1896 the Castle Clinton is re-opened as the City's Aquarium, being one of the best attractions of the city until the year of 1941. The island is a national monument and is open to all tourists between  May and October,  Passengers ride free on Saturdays and Sundays until 11:30am, taking the ferry at the  Maritime Building in Manhattan, or at the Fulton Ferry landing in Brooklyn, is a very short journey  offerring fantastic views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, New Jersey ... When you arrive you will see a  children's playground, sports fields and open spaces to relax, free of cars, you can explore the island by bicycle, by tram, free kayaking, or  walking  2 miles around the island, there are also picnic areas. On the Island you may appreciate a picturesque town with colonial homes and giant trees.

You can take a tour to the  Castle Williams, keep in mind that each tour is limited to 15 people, every half hour. first come, first serve; this visit is workig and you can get fantastic  views from the top.  The island is also used as headquarters for summer festivals.

Federal Hall is located on Wall Street in New York City, was the first United States Capitol and place of inauguration of George Washington, the current building is a reconstruction, where Washington was named the first US president, inside there is a small museum that tells the history of the building, the most interesting facts, the Bible used in the inauguration of the President. Outside the building of Federal Hall stands the majestic statue of Washington, the main hall with marble columns and the beautiful vaulted ceiling is a monument.

Our advice:

The building has a small tourist information center.

Every hour between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. there is a tour.

Visit, Wall Street and take a picture on the Stock Exchange.
