At the top of a hill in northern Manhattan Fort Tryon Park overlooking the Hudson River, is the museum and gardens The Cloisters is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to medieval art and architecture. With 5,000 artworks, including magnificent sculpture, illuminated manuscripts, stained glass, and the celebrated Unicorn Tapestries. The Cloisters maintain the originality of the middle Ages, with a splendid chapel, gold and ivory handicrafts, is to admire the Castle and the courtyards. The outside gardens are spectacular. There are also performances of medieval music concerts.
Our advice:
They offer guided tours to the collection and gardens views. Relax in the Trie Café (open May to October).
When you visit the Metropolitan (MET), they give you a pass to visit also the Cloisters, and its valid for the day.
