The New York Transit Museum located in an old station is one of the leading institutions of its kind in the world and the largest museum in the United States dedicated to urban public transportation history; shows historical artifacts of the New York City Subway, bus, commuter rail, bridge and tunnel systems. Visitors can learn how complex engineering and construction helped establish the system of the city's subway. The museum explores the development of the metropolitan region of New York through the presentation of exhibitions, excursions, educational programs and workshops on the cultural, social and technological history of public transportation.
