New York City Center

$25 and up Center of the city, with its unique façade neo-moorish, was built in 1923 as a meeting room for the members of the ancient order of the nobles of the mystic Shrine. After having returned to the property of the city, the building was saved from destruction by the mayor Fiorello La Guardia, who established the first performing arts center in Manhattan, a house of 2,750 seats for the best theater, music and dance. On 11 December 1943, city center officially opened its doors with a special concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra of New York, to whether the guard took the lead in driving the national anthem. The theater was re-dedicated as the home of the premier of New York for the dance and was given the historical status. Committed since its founding as an educational resource for a diverse community, New York City Center has long offered opportunities for students and faculty the creativity, discipline, and the emotion of the music and the movement in the core curriculum of the schools. This effort of renown, nationally recognized in 1999 by the Presidential Committee for the Arts and Humanities, has been extended in the workshops, the components of musical theater, and teacher-training programs, and currently reaches to educate and enlighten both the young and general public. Each season presents new developments.
