Museum of the City of New York

Founded in 1923 as a private corporation, nonprofit, Museum connects the past, present and future of New York, preserving original materials related to the history of the city. It serves the people of New York and visitors from around the world through exhibitions, schools, programs, publications and collections.

Collections: His collection of 1.5 million objects, mainly from the 19th and 20th century including paintings, photographs, toys, paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, costumes and many other objects that describe the history and evolution of the city. Exhibitions: The exhibitions have almost everything you ever wanted to know about the city, including exhibitions dedicated to the history of New York such as a major port with ship models and a statue of seven feet tall. Another gallery has recreations of rooms from different periods of colonial times.

Our advice:

  • If you're going to stay several days in the city or plan to visit several places of interest (including the museum) is a good idea to purchase the New York Pass.
  • It is especially recommended section of old toys (you can not miss dollhouses) and the exhibition "New York Interiors", where there are several full-scale mock-ups where you can see domestic environments between the seventeenth and twentieth centuries.
  • If you have time, the video "Timescapes" is very interesting. and it is projected every half hour lasts 25 minutes.
  • Visit the café, which has a nice view of Central Park.
