The HONG KONG Dragon Boat Festival is an event that takes place on the second Sunday of August and is one of the most important celebrations of the year for the Chinese community in New York. This is an event organized around a famous rowboat competition held at Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows - Corona Park.

It is one of the largest boat festivals of its kind in the United States and somehow commemorates a long tradition of rowing boat competition in China. The tradition developed in Hong Kong indicates that ships should be built as if they were dragons, a crucial fantastic animal in oriental culture. Therefore, the waters of Flushing Meadows are full of dragons that cross the waters looking for the first prize.

Our advice:

Parallel to the competition, numerous activities and events are developed for the whole family, such as music, oriental dance, theater, exhibitions of martial arts, etc. This is one of the most original festivals that can be enjoyed during the summer in New York.
This highly anticipated multicultural event features two exciting days of dragon boat racing, wonderful performances, and an ethnic food court.
